Westfalian State Stud

Mrs Rimkus-director of the state stud showed us around today- what a treat. This is an extremly busy time of year with stallion parades, festivals and presentations happening every few days as well as breeding duties so we were very lucky that Mrs rimkus had time for us.
We were given a special visit with Florestan - he is now retired from breeding at 23 years of age but is still very lively and maintaining his position as a very significant sire of Westfalian horses (some 4000 already and there is still semen available). He is a popular sirte as he seems to be able to produce both valuable comeptition horses as well as tractable mounts for pleasure riding.
Mrs Rimkus tlaked to us about the challenge of meeting the various breeders interests as well as maintaining an economically viable facility. Both warmbllod and coldblood stallions are kept at the Landgestut in Warendorf with stallions moved out to the 20 or so stallion stations throughout Rheinland Westfalia during the season.

While we were there Lisa Wilcox was also on-site shooting the latest Pikeur catalogue, what a treat that she took time to speak to us as well.

The chores still have to be done.
