We've finally made it to the riding school and everyone is keen to get going. The Landes-Reit und Farhrschule (riding and driving) Rheinland is a very modern complex with two indoor arenas, 2 outdoor dressage arenas, a large jumping area plus cross country fences and a hacking track. Accommodation for live-in apprentices as well as those attending various courses preparing for level 4 or 3 exams like our riders or various instructor, judge & driving courses.
The accommodation is great the rooms are larger than those in most hotel we have stayed in with ensuite bathrooms. Meals are provided in a canteen with typical German food- cold meats, cheese & rolls as well as ceral for breakfast, a hot meal for lunch & rolls with cheese & meat for dinner.
We managed to find a cafe serving ice cream in a nearby park so we can justify dessert after our walk.
The program for the riding will generally be morning stables, grooming and gear cleaning a flat work lesson in the morning followed by theory on training, stable management, lungeing etc then another riding session (jumping, lunging or something else) followed by another theory session. Some riders have been allocated separate horses for dressage & jumping so they have two stables to keep clean. There is a course being conducted in conjunction with ours so everyone is learning a bit more German every day.
Apparently Julie is getting so comfortable she said goodbye to her mum on the phone in German!
