Trot poles & western riding

Today a session on using trot poles to improve the consistency of rhythm & tempo was the theme of the flatwork lesson. This was followed in the afternoon by another jumping lesson, the fences are getting bigger & everyone jumped a small course of 5 obstacles today, there were a few stops when new elements were added (and/or the riders did not approach with enough purpose & speed) but there is definite improvement every day.
Today a huge western show began so there are plenty of jangling spurs & big hats around the place, we are really looking forward to the line dancing on Saturday night but in the meantime, everyone has to learn a dressage test for Saturday morning.
The test is only at novice level but there are a few new challenges for our riders.
1. The ride in a 20x 40 m arena so there will have to be lots of impulsion & correct prepartion especially in the corner.
2. The riders will be riding in groups so they have to be paying attention to their tempo, distances from each other & accuracy to avoid collisions or stop/start tests.
